86 4runner HELP needed

I recently replaced my 22RE engine on my 86 4runner. It's an 87 engine 22RE. Since I put it in and everything it's been running rough. I'm not sure if the timing is dialed in properly and it keeps stalling out, almost sounding like it's starving for fuel. It's been running somewhat ok except for this stalling out which started last night. When I open the oil cap when it's running it instantly dies. Any thoughts on the issues?

To be honest, I bought the engine off craigs list. The guy said it was running good when he pulled it. When I first installed it I heard a tapping sound, I figured the values just needed some adjustment. I think I have the timing right on it and it was running ok only a little rough. It was my first attempt at doing a swap. I'm a little stumped and don't have a lot of money to spend right now.

Buying a engine that ran good when the guy pulled it is usually an expensive lesson to learn. (I've learned it) rough running is sometimes a vacuum prob. Have any cross contamination in the oil or radiator?

None. I did notice some oil where the oil pump near the crank pulley is. That's about it.
