"86 factory trailer hitch wiring.

bellow the tail gate I have three wires that are cut, a white one grounded to the frame rail, a green one and a brown (maybe black, or purple) that are cut by the bumper. I'm thinking these were factory for a trailer wiring?

toyota never had "factory" trailer wiring on these years .. might be trailer wiring , just not factory

Correct! just noticed those wires came through a cut in the boot by the rear body. whats the best way to wire a hitch? tap from the tail light housings or?

You can buy a trailer wiring converter for $20-30. It plugs into the factory harness w/o cutting anything.

They plug into the tail light harness. Any auto parts store will have them, I got one for my 84 at WalMart.

theres a good chance the cut wires r allready for blinkers and brake lights. hook up a test light to the ground wire and he if your blinkers will light up the light or not.
