86 rear qtr panel options? thinking outside the box

Fiberglass isn't an option, Slacker isn't taking orders for 2 years. Factory panels are $1K each :mmph: The place in Canada (alfo?) has horrible reviews with respect to fitment. Bondo/replacement sections will eventually rust at the seems.

I am planning on making this a summer/nice weather only truck. That being said, how do I deal with this rust if I want it to look good and be rust free? See picts below (that is wax in the rust, I had my 10 year old wax it and he waxed everything, LOL)

I was wondering if anyone has seen any options that eliminate the rear panels or look good even though they look nothing like the factory originals?

I am thinking something like how folks make wood stake beds on pickups where the bed rusted out. Obviously that wouldn't work with the design of the 4runner, but some sort of alternate along those lines. Any ideas are appreciated. I just want the rust gone and her to look good.

Alfa body panels in Canada have worked great for me never had a fitment issue with the 4 runner panels.

Other then that you can just cut the panels from a junkyard truck and weld the. In to your truck.

Good luck with the body work. Then, when you're done, lose all that non-functional chrome; they catch and trap moisture, dirt and salt and cause rust. Mine, including windshield chrome, are gone.

I made mine from scratch. All my pictures posted are featuring my hand made panels. Another trick is to use new front fenders and cut the archs out and reverse the sides, but you still have to build the rear part. I have a build thread. It is a ghetto method but they held up amazing, zero rust.

I recently posted a pic of my truck in the photo thread, this fix has not rusted at all, and inside the body no rust has formed on the original sheet metal. Sealed and clean, it will outlast the truck.

Not that pretty but cheap and easy.

Hey guys .. yes .. my shop is BOOKED for 2.4 years at this moment , BUT , this is the bigger orders .
1/4 panels and such I'm a year out .

I have only stopped taking orders of 1 YEAR ... I just need to catch up a little .

After taking a closer look at your pictures with the rust around and almost above the tail lights you are really going to need to find a donor truck. Fiberglass would be the best of course - who wouldn't want them?

In the meantime you may consider finding a donor. It is going to be hard to do a backyard job in the tail light area.

Code and fuel system help needed

I have a 1900 4runner sr5 5 speed and it has a check engine lite and it flashes 1 5 2 5 and the smog guy isn't sure if that is a 25 and 52 code or a 15 and 52 code etc.

It hesitates and surges slightly under acceleration until 4800 rpm at which time it runs properly until 5300 where i stop revving it.

it idles fine and never misses and runs smooth if you sit in it in neutral and rev it up


any way to determine exactly what codes are showing by this flashing sequence?

it has 31" tires and is pathetically sow to accelerate . is this normal?

any ideas what the prob might be?

any way to test a throttle body to determine if it is not working properly?
