87 t4r and 12 code problem

Hello all,
Here I am again asking for help. I seem to have a pretty unique issue with my 87 4runner. 22re that seems to have been replaced prior to my purchase. Problem with the 12 code is that it indicates for the knock sensor. After an intensive examination, cannot locate the knock sensor anywhere on the block. Have located a few cut and taped wires that seem to go nowhere. Have purchased a new knock sensor already anticipating just swapping out the part and moving on. What is the best option for a resolution. Can the code be disabled somehow and ECU tricked into believing that knock sensor is functioning? Or is it best to locate the wiring for the knock sensor and install in the water port on exhaust side of the block? Is there another solution to this? Advise/insight would be vastly appreciated.

I don't know why you wouldn't just put the new sensor back where it goes (low on passenger side of block, just rear of the oil pressure sender).

I would if there was one there. That is the problem, it would seem that the 22r that was used to replace to original equipment does not have a knock sensor installed anywhere. Without stripping down to the block itself, I have not been able to locate the sensor on the block.

Ok, I get the jist of it now. Seems the easiest thing would be to find the sensor wiring and short it out to see if the code goes away, otherwise you are going to need the advice of someone who is better with electronics than me.
LC Engineering is known for relocating the stock knock sensor lower on their stroker blocks and for use with forged pistons. You may search around and find more on this subject. Check this out:

Well, is there some sort of a hole or plug where the knock sensor is supposed to go? The block should be the same regardless. Just because it doesnt have one doesn't mean you cant install one.

Thanks Turbo, I like the idea of just drilling and tapping to create a port. The first of problems was not knowing the location and second where to create one if needed. Would just shorting the knock sensor wire keep the code from returning?

BrandX, now that I know what kind of port to look for I hope to be able to do just that.
