87 T4R: liftgate won't BUDGE...please help!

Hi there.

So my liftgate all of a sudden stopped opening.

The glass is fine - goes up and down as always, and the lock button goes up and down with the key turned (for teh window). Everything works great EXCEPT...when I reach in to pull on the handle to undo the lift gate, the handle only pulls about halfway and there is a TON of tension on it. The lift gate does not open.

Any idea where to start? Is this something I can do with the liftgate closed, since I can't get the darn thing open?

Seems to me that the lock is not disengaging all they way. Your best bet is to crawl in there, take off the covers and take a look at what's going on in there. If you're good at understanding mechanical things by looking at them (seeing what does what), it's pretty easy to find the problem in there.

Hey....this is the same Nick who sold me the 2 power mirrors last fall isn't it??

Will try to pull the cover off and go exploring soon for the problem.

something may be cought on something, when my locks do it i just grease up the lock.

You might want to look at the actual cable from the handle to the lock, sometime those cable get old and stretch causing the lock not to fully open, this is currently happening to my tailgate, for now my only cure for it is to leave all the panels off and yank on the cable when I need to open the tailgate
