88 4Runner compatibility

Hi, I have an 88 a4runner and I'm looking for replacement parts on ebay and around the web. Was curious what years are compatible with mine. From what I've seen so far, it looks like I can interchange parts with 4runners in the 86-89 range. Can anyone offer me some more insight, and expertise into this?

Depends on what parts you want. 1st gen Runners were 84-89. The front suspension changed from solid axle to IFS in 86, so the whole front suspension and driveline is different from the 84-85. Other than that pretty much everything else is the same.
Some 2nd gen (90-95) stuff is also common to 1st gen, just depends on what parts you're looking for.

Right now I'm looking for the front fenders, and a few interior things. Door panels, center console, glove box lid, and the rear window electrical switches.

Can I get any of these items from a 2nd gen runner?

i had a 2nd gen that i parted out and i took the dorr panels out to see if they would fit "for a joke" and to my surprise they actually fit and look pretty cool.

Yep..power windows..what color are your interior parts? Mine is the red, and I dont care for it much..would like to start replacing with gray.

From what I've seen the older 4runners seem to be notorious for having rear window issues. Mine works intermittently ..depending on it's mood I guess..Right now it's in a bad mood with the window half way down. Not good for March in Montana...

Will try replacing the electrical switch in the console first, since I know the motor is functioning.

Anyone else with rear window issues?
