'88 4Runner-Tranny Fluid "burping" out of shift lever hole

I've had this happen a couple of times in past weeks, but actually witnessed it today. Wondering if anyone could shed some light on possible causes.

No recent work done.

That is a new one on me....maybe the fluid is over full?

No recent work done . Maybe you have been checking tranny level cold? filling to proper level cold could cause an overfill.
