88 aftermarket fuel gauge sender?

Has anyone had any luck replacing the stock sender with something other than the OEM sender? Truck hasn't run in a few years and rust has killed mine. For the price of a new one, Ill go without. But if there is a cheaper solution, Ill replace it.

I think im going to be able to use my old sender. Soaked it in a gallon of OSPHO for a day and everything freed up. Plan was to soak the pump hanger so I could reuse it. After seeing the results, figured what the heck. Lets try it on the sender. Float was completely rusted in place. 2 days later, moves freely and OHMs check out. Filtered out the trash in the acid and will put the recleaned acid in to my fuel tank and let it go to work. What was looking like a $500 job may turn out to be $35. Will keep yall posted

You're extremely lucky, those EFI fuel pump assemblies haven't been made in decades and can't be found. The motor yes, but not the rest of it.
