88 Loose Goose Rear End

I just bought an 88 4runner and need some help with a rear sway issue. When I bought it it was obvious that it needed new shocks and steering dampener. It was nearly dangerous to drive. I put 4 new shocks on and a new dampener, I took it out for a drive to realize that something seems wrond with the rear end. When driving straight down the highway the rear end feels like it's stepping out and then comes back. It mostly happens when if I swerve slightly. It's susbtle and not dramatic, but noticable to me. Of course I went straight home and checked all my work to see if I forgot to tighten anything or missed anything that may be broke. It's all fine. So at first I thought that maybe the rear is out of alignment, so I checked it and it seems spot on. Next I thought it must be missing a rear stabilizer bar. I researched and found that the 88 doesnt have one. Everything with the rear suspension seems intact, inline, tight and proper. Has anyone encountered this issue before or has any direction to point me to investigate further. I greatly appreciate any help.

Mine does it too. More often when theres bumps in the road. I think its due to worn leaf springs, maybe one wearing differently than the other. When I did my ZUK mod it improved slightly but I still need new rear shocks. It may not get much better on mine since I now have no front swaybar. I just stay off the highways.

I have any 87 and it seems to track pretty well. I did lube the shackle bushings and re-torqued all of the leaf spring mounting bolts. I would also check the axle bearings. good luck

Bad/worn out spring bushings?
