881's and billies

i've read that these 881's yield 1.75 inches, in stock perch location, some say 2". now, if i put these on 5100's, on the second groove from the bottom, how much more lift will i get? on the 3rd groove? also, if i decide to save some money and reuse my stock coils, what groove would i have to place them on to get me level or close to level, or to give me a little rake, back to front? is it ok to reuse my stockers on 5100's?

Just today I installed my Tundra 5100's with OME 881 coils. Before the 5100's I had Tokico Trekmasters and a Toytec 3/4" spacer. I didn't make many measurements before I started but it appears the old set up with 265-75-16 tires give me 35.75" from the ground to the bottom of the fender/wheel wheel/flare.

With the spacer removed and just the 881 with the Tundra 5100 set at the second notch from the bottom I'm at 36.75" at the same location. I've got about 2 years on the coils, a TJM bumper (no winch), lights, skids and sliders above normal weight.

FWIW the paperwork that comes with the shocks say the bottom perch will give normal ride height. Second notch, 0.65" of lift. Third notch, 1.3" of lift. Forth notch, 2" of lift. Top notch, 2.5" lift.

ok. with stock coils then, 4th groove to get 2"? that would probably make me level with the 906's out back. i may just go this route for now and upgrade later when i find the tundras. save some coin too.

I run 906's in the rear along with a 10mm trim packer and I'm just a hair taller in the rear on the second notch. I'd use the second notch and go from there. After doing that put a load in the rear and see how it sits.

One problem I had with the install was getting the taller shock mounted. I wrestled for over an hour as I couldn't get the lower bolt hole lined up even with the sway bar removed. On the third notch the assembly will be stiffer and you may run into problems.

Did you have the upper A arm bolt loosened?

There's no issues. I've read that you should actually loosen it when lifting and retighten it when it's sitting normal again because there are sleeve bushings and you can relieve the sleeve by resetting it at the new angle. I loosened my bolt and removed the sway bar and the arms drooped so far I had to actually jack them up to align with my 5100s.

I think the kid was the one who said to loosen the top bolt, and it worked like a charm and there is plenty of room to retorque it when the truck is sitting level again.

reviving this thread. i have my 5100's with stock coils set on the 4th groove from the bottom up. i am leaning towards the 881's. how much taller are they over stock coils and on what groove should i set the perch on to get a level or slight rake, rear to front? are the 881's going to make the front higher? with 906's in back, will i need 10mm spacers to level or give me slight rake?

I've got 5100's front a rear. I've got the 881's in the front and 906's in the back.

Front: 881 coils, Tundra 5100's on the second (from the bottom) notch, Toytec top spacer (3/4" claimed).

Rear 906 coils, Tundra 5100's, OME 10mm trim packers, AirLift 1000 bags.

At first I was trying to install my 881's on the middle perch but the assembled assembly would not get in there. Even with a bottle jack, removal of the swaybar, etc it wouldn't fit. I moved it down one notch and was able to push/slide the assembly in because I was able to compress the assembly just enough.

I threw the Toytec spacers in for a couple reasons. For one I had them installed previously and had the extended studs on the top cap. The strut was so hard to get in there I didn't want to pull it out to change the studs. Without the spacers (they are 3/8" in height and are supposed to add 3/4" lift) the front was lower than the rear and lower than my old setup (OME 881's and Trekmasters). Now the truck is level with no air in the bags. I have the bags for heavy loads and my trailer.

This is a factory 99 coil and the new 881.

The ride with the 881's and 5100's is solid. It's a bit stiff for bumpy pot hole ridden roads but offroad and especially at speed they are nice.

so would 880's be better for me? i don't have a need for spacers either. if i need those 10 mils for the back, that's about it.

I see others are in the same boat. When it came time for mine I just stuck the spacers in there and called it good.

Hello,

I've been cruisin' the forum and got myself confused. Need someone to confirm ride height and rake.

The plan is to refresh the suspension on a stock '97 limited with 289k KMs.

Front - Tundra 5100s with OME 881s on the second perch (1.5-1.75" lift)
Rear - 4Runner 5100s with OME 906 springs. (2" lift)

Based on my research the truck should be level to half inch higher in the rear.

TIA

Update: Fronts are on the 3rd perch providing 1.75" lift (Before: 20.25" After: 22") Rears lift 2.25" (Before: 20.25" After 22.5")
