89 22RE Adjust Idle or Stuck Choke??

My 89 T4R starts with a pretty high idle, and never seems to calm down. Could it be the choke is stuck or does it just need the idle adjusted. How do you tell?

do you have a tachometer? if so what is it idling at?
you could adjust the idle and see from there.

EFI doesn't have a choke.
May be a problem with the cold start injector circuit, a bad temp sensor, ...

Your high idle condition is most likely a carboned up iac valve, causing it to stick sometimes or all the time. Toyota carburator
cleaner is the best hting i have found to resolve this, but it is hard to find. Gum cutter or one of the still available choke cleaners
will work. Take your air intake hose off of the throttle body. and at the bottom of the throttle body you will see a small hole in front of the throttle plate this leads down to your iac valve. Spray
the cleaner into that hole and allow it to soak for about 15 min, while you are waiting you might as well clean the throttle plate as well. Start her up bring it up to operating temp and see if the idle comes back down to around 750-900 rpm. You may have to perform this operation a couple of times before success,or worse case have to replace the valve. ($$$$) Good luck

thanks for the tips. I dont have a tachometer, but I know its quite high. I'll try yotatechs tip, sounds like cheap way to start, and see what happens. thanks fellas.

So does anyone need a can of throttle body cleaner with 3 squirts missing?? Worked like a charm. Ran up the road for a couple of minutes and bingo, purrs like a kitten.....thanks again, now to see what else to fix on this beast....
