1989 4Runner SR5 EFI 2.4 - fixing up from scratch --HELP--

Hey guys

I just bought a 4Runner a month ago, got it for 2000$ and for sure I knew it had some problems.
It got 230,000Km on it. Did about 8000Km myself.
I road trip a lot around Australia and till now there was no big problem with it.
It has 22RE 2.4L engine
I replaced the brake disks, new battery.
The thing is, when I turn the wheel at low speed, getting into a parking space and such, it makes a cracking sound from the front end.
Was wondering what it is. Maybe one of u guys got it, maybe a fix and such..

Cheers guys

I'd start by checking the ball joints. One of those lets go and you're not going to be a happy camper. If the ball joints are good you could look at the pitman arm and idler arm, maybe check the rag joint on the steering shaft. If it's happening in reverse, it's probably the steering stops.

I'm assuming that it's IFS.

I'd go with a bad CV joint first (especially if it's IFS).
Cracking/banging sound at full lock while moving is textbook description.

Thanks for the replays.
I just oiled them up, and also got a new CV shaft for the left end.
That fixed it.

Doe I have I lot more problems now..
1. When going Up-Hill, the car lacks power, have trouble changing gears from 1 to 2 (automatic, 4 gears), and just revving up to much in 1 and 2 gears.
What do u think?
