89 Electric back window problem

I have been trying to put on my hard top for the last 2 days and just can not get it to work. Before I originally took my hardtop off the electric back window worked perfectly fine. Now I am trying to put my hard top on and I guess can not get it right so the back window wont go up and I am freezing my ass off in the cold. Can someone help me either by pass the sensor or tell me where the sensor is or if someone has some things to help me with my back window that would be great. 4runners are awesome

use a boost pack and jump the two terminals on the motor. positive on one side and neg on the other (reverse it to go the other direction)

chances are you are not getting a good ground

Back window solution

When you removed your top one bolt is longer than the rest,the longer one belongs on the left side rear(2nd or 3rd from the back?) where the rear window sensor switch is located.that is a safety switch to prevent the rear window from operating with the top off. Mine is an 86, I don't know if your's is the same it's worth a look.

One other thing, if the rear wiper isn't parked all the way, the window won't work.

i had that problem the other day, my wiper hinge is rusted so it couldn't get back in the bracket when it went down and my window wasn't working and it took me about an hour to figure it out

So I'm having the same problem. Window won't go up. I hear the relays click but that's all.. How is the motor grounded? And since its intermittent I'm thinking corrosion. Wears the best place to start?

Same problem with tailgate key and with console?

Yes, window will not go up with the key in the rear door or from the consol switch. I can hear the relay clicking. I Was thinking its a bad ground but wouldn't that affect it going down as well as up?? I did clean the contacts in the rear door by the motor which were very corroded & at first I thought it was fixed but now it's worse and won't go up at all..

The up/down functions are handled by separate relays, so it's possible for the down function to work fine, while the up function is intermittent or slow. Read this:

It's been covered countless times. I fixed my "up" issue simply by replacing that specific relay.

As mentioned in 4crawler's site. Measure voltage across the 2 motor terminals as you are attempting to lower or raise window and while the relay is clicking. You should see voltage polarity reverse with up and down position.
