89 rear window problem

I recently purchased an 89 4runner. Everything runs great, no rust, perfect truck. My rear window has been working great up until two weeks ago. I can operate the window with my key from the back and it goes all the way up and down with no hesitation. I can rollthe window up from the switch in the cabin but it stops as soon as the glass hits the top of the roof. I can roll it up another two inches with the key. Once it does stop a couple inches short I can no longer put it down using the switch in the front. If I put the window all the way up with the key it will not let me put it down at all with the switch up front.

Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

That sort of thing happens a lot.
Go to the 4crawler.com site, he has a section on troubleshooting rear window problems.

try popping the switch out the consul diconnect wires and remove bulb then carefully sperate switch to get at inside there is a metal rocker with two contact pins . i had the same issue with my 91 and by chance i got bored and scraped the contact pins with a screw driver put it back together and it all worked again dont be afraid it is very self explanatory just watch out when you remove the metal rocker there is a tiny spring that likes to fall out my suggestion is work over a paper towl not your lap its easier to see
