8yr/80,000 exhaust warranty

My 05 4runner with 57k has just dropped the tailpipe now im hearing a definite exhaust tick from driver side wheel well.

Would it be covered under the exhaust warranty? Its less than 8yrs and 80,000 miles.

I don't believe it covers rust. So if it was due to rust I think you're SOL. Never hurts to ask the dealer though.

I believe that the 8yr/80k miles warranty is only on exhaust emission parts. If that rusted pipe had a cat on it, you'd probably be covered.

I believe that is correct. Toyota may also give a basic rust warranty as well, but it is usually much lower. 5 Years or something like that.

The Emissions warranty is Federally mandated and I believe it only covers the exhaust system in normal use. It was enacted to ensure manufacturer put catalytic systems that lasted longer than a few years.

Rust has NOTHING to do with the warranty. The reason MOST manufacturers went to Stainless steel was because of rust. The mandated Fed warranty that was established in 1997 forced manufacturers to seek out alternative materials to meet that warranty.

And it's not just the exhaust system that's covered. Anything to do with emissions is covered.

Also states why it won't be covered. Off-Roading is one of the things that can void the warranty.

I just confirmed it on my Toyota warranty guide. The muffler is only 3yr/36mi. The cat pipes are 8yr/80k miles....

Now you say you have less than 80k miles, but what is the date of first use of the vehicle, because that may put you out of the warranty period. If you want to PM your VIN, I can run it on Toyota's technician website (if you aren't registered on Toyota.com) and get you the DOFU.
