90 4Runner exceleration prob

I recently got a 90 4 Runner but it had some problems with it. The main problem was that once I reached about 65mph the truck would stop excelerating. I would floor it all that it would go and my speed would bairly increase, and when it did it would be very very slowly. After taking it to the mechanic, it took them a while to figure out the problem but they finaly said that it was the T.P.S. sensor. They cleaned the sensor and i got my truck back with much improved power and exceleration.
However after driving it for a while it seemed like the problem still remained except not as bad as it was before. This time it seems that my truck stops excelerating at around 75mph and it gets stuck at about 3000rpm. It does go up faster than that on lower in fourth gear, but even then it doesn't excelerate as quick as i think it should. My question is, is it normal for a 1990 4 runner to have a slower exceleration rate when trying to get past 75mph? If not then what could the problem be? Thanks for the help

The 3.0L is slow a fact of life for us.

running 31X10.5 on mine I don't even think about passing people or gunning it you only have about 150HP to work with.

Thats why when my 3.0Lslow dies I am doing the 3.4L swap:D

Lol, alright thanks man. I was starting to wonder weather my truck was just crapping out on me or that there was a problem. That puts my mind at ease.

it should run better than that...you said you just got it..has it always run like that since you got it?i had the same problem when i did my timing belt..had it a tooth off..

Yea its been like that since I got it. I only got about 3 weeks ago. Didn't notice the problem too much till after I had it. We took it too the mechanic and first they thought it was the timing belt, the checked all of that and the timing was fine. Then they said there was a gasket ruptured in the intake manifold, so they replaced it, and still no power. Finaly they said the problem was the T.P.S sensor. They cleaned it and finaly there was more power in the truck. Thats the last thing it had done to it. But it put it in the condition it is in now. I took it back and they took another look at it but they thought it was fine, and since I didn't have another truck to use as reference, I figured I'd ask you guys. But thats pretty much the history of it so far, at least as far as long as I've had it.

they will run a tooth off..just not perfect... my truck will maintain 75-80 mph on the road with my boat behind it easy... rev the motor from an idle..if it r's up slow and you have to flog it to go over 5 grand...its a pretty good chance your belt jumped or someone replaced it incorrectly...its a real bitch getting it lined up right...good luck
