90 4runner help :)

Hey whats up guys?

I have had my 1990 standard 4cyl 4runner for about 2 months now, only 200k on it and runs mint!, Just wondering if theres any touch ups i can do to my engine to make it like new? like disolve build up to make it a clean drive again. Also, there was body work done on it by the previous owner and the wheel wells were cut and re painted and gave over spray all over my truck so its very rough on the hood of my 4 runner and cleaning/waxing doesnt help, and doesnt have a good shine... i have a air compressor and im willing to try paint it myself, What do i do? Grind all the rough paint and spots that look like may have rust underneath? then go ahead with painting my truck black? Also i want a new grill, theres a pop out on the polished aluminum by my headlight, how can i touch that up?. The paint just outside of the headlights have chiped, is it best just to take that whole peice of and spray paint it black? I have many more questions but i will wait. heres some pictures

I keep my t4r stock. Use good plugs, wires, cap and rotor and high quality air filter. I also use high mileage engine oil. Don't know if it is a scam or not but the truck runs along quyte well. No t a body man though.

Where should i buy performance plugs, wires and what not...
And if you know anything about cold air intakes... What do i do about my air sensor and how would i install it/what to buy...

Hey i'm new to these 4-runners too but what I can tell you about past experience with any vehicle is stay away from anything that is "performance" Simple bolt on's like CAI or a new header might improve performance, but make sure you get something of quality. A cheap product will only hurt the life of your engine, and the performance gained will not be ultimately worth it. I would stick with the stock plugs and oil filter. I guarantee there is some way to get the stock parts that your rig came with, go get them. Yota put them on their for a reason. My 92 runner has 370k miles and the previous owner swore by stock parts and I beileve him, mine runes mint.

As far as painting it depends on how far you want to go. If you wanted to do a full paint job, strip it to metal, work on the rust spots do your body work and paint it. I have read a ton of people who like to buy a primer/starter which basically is sprayed on directly before the main coat. So you spray your main coat(s) on the wet primer. I have always painted (1st gen Mustangs) with a thick primer that I wet-sand down after it dries to perfection and then spray 4-7 main coats and a couple clears. I have even read of people who use acrylic paint with brushes and roll on brushes over a hand wet-sanded stock paint getting positive results. I cant guarantee one over the other, search Google and find out what you like the best

Yeah alright i know what you mean, but a little power could really help my 4R. Can barely go up hills haha. any suggestions? And as for tires i am getting 31s tonight with 15" rims, so should be a little nicer for bushn

power gains?

What you have is a 4000 lb vehicle witha little more than 100 hp. Any power adders will only be available in the higher rpm's. You kind of have to live with what you got.

exactly what hickory said. Put it this way, a CAI adds to your TOP end. Shorty header might help your low end a bit, but dont expect anything from a CAI until you hit about 3.5k on your tach.

Also adding bigger tires will only hurt your performance, by a TON. Not saying don't do it, but be prepared.

Like I said im new to these rigs. If you want more low end power, look into a supercharger. Not sure if any are even available for this engine but thats about your best bet

Im sure this will sound dumb to some of you guys but i need like step by step tips on how to paint my truck, i have the air compressor, need to know what black paint to buy, the primer and how far to sand my truck down to get rid of the over spray? like to the bare metal? please get back i do want to get it done before the winter and about costs
