90 4x4 3.0 v6 auto O/D question

My 90 4runner 3.0 v6 4x4 auto has a hard shift into O/D, very, very, very hard shift into O/D at all times, 1-3rd are fairly smooth. My question is, could i possibly have a problem with the o/d solenoid? I have been searching the forum and have not seen a prob like this, I also have noticed that I can hit the O/D on off switch and the trans responds correctly with a very hard shift, but I do not get the "O/D OFF" light displayed on my dash. I assume that the 1990 model had this light, but I am not sure because this is the first 4runner I have ever owned, there isn't even a light on key up when the warning lights go thru the tedt mode before start up. Don't know about your shift problem, but the light might burnt out. Mine was.

Usually when the OD solenoid is bad you have no OD or it's intermittent, rather than a hard shift you describe.

feelblades1, have you found anything else on the OD hard shift issue ? I have the same issue 3.0 auto 4x4 220000 miles. Also mine will not go into OD until I've driven a mile or 2.

I know for a fact they wont go into O/D until a certain temp is reached. If you let your rig warm up for a few minutes it should go into O/D sooner, as far as the hard shift, IDK..
