Hello All,
I'm fast approaching 90,000 miles on the odometer and so I'm preparing a checklist for myself to order parts and for my mechanic to go through. I found an independent mechanic who charges $75 per hour - versus $120 per hour at the stealership - and is OK with me brining in my own parts - which is where the stealership or service centers really make their money gouging you.
As for parts I need to order...the timing belt and water pump. Is there anything else related to these things such as hose or pulley that should be replaced along with these 2 things? Spark plugs and s.p. wires....still on the originals so it's time to replace these - do I go with OEM ones or what is everyone's preference?
As for the list of services I'm making for the mechanic in addition to the timing belt, water pump, and spark plugs are:
Transmission service
Power Steering service
Differential fluids and transfer case
Coolant service
I am thinking about going with 100% Lucas on the Tranny and Power steering fluid - any thoughts on this? Do I need to obtain Toyota brand coolant?
Also the mechanic said he would replace the "cam shaft seals" when changing the timing belt. And I have seen a number of you on here mentioning "rear axle seals" as well.
Finally I thought to replace the upper and lower radiator (original) hoses - are there any other hoses that should be replaced at this time?
I replaced the supercharger and other 2 belts at 55K miles so those are OK for now.
