Maybe you should post this in a few other areas of the forum.

My next guess would be Crank or cam position sensors.

You might check with the second gen guys...they probably know more.

The computer would be the last thing I would replace, as they don't typically go bad.

What codes do you have if you jumper the T1 and TE1 connections in the diagnostic box?

Can you put back in the old ecm?

Here is the troubleshooting diagram......

and the service specifications...

I did put the old computer back in and took the new one back. Power is getting to the computer but not leaving. i feel i replaced all i could replace. i was told that it wasnt that uncommon for 2nd gen 4runner computers to go bad. everything is telling me its the computer but with know success on the new one, it has me second guessing.

I would start at page 13 and test again just to be sure...

I would clean and test all the grounds related to the ECM and battery also.

Just a thought, you will probably get more responses from the guys over at the 2nd gen. page....this is the 3rd gen. page.

The engines, computers, etc...are different.
3.0 V6 & OBD-I for '89 - '95 ( 2nd. Gen. )
3.4 V6 & OBD-II for '96 - '02 ( 3rd. Gen. )

Good luck!

Hello,

I am having the same issue right now with my 91 4runner....The ECU needs to have exactly the same numbers...I got one at a junk yard....will have to see tommorow if it works...

the number that has to be the same is the 89661 number on your computer...

I had a jaguar with electrical problems and remembered thinking,....man I wish i had a toyota...seems you have to be careful what you wish for...

Let me know what happens as i am in the same boat you are... I will let you know im the ecu fixes my problem...

If anyone else wants to help out here is what happened...I changed my plugs ...the wires and distributor cap and rotor...Came to fire her up...nothing...no spark at coil...got other coil and igniter from junkyard...still nothing....got distributor and installed it...still nothing....checked all the fuses all good...one thing which is weird id that the check engine light does NOT COME on when the key is on the ON position...Engine cranks but 0 spark...

Thanks!

No! Plz no... From here: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/new-m...r-org-new-members-please-read.html#post440375 Check out rule #8. If you post and want to move it just ask an active moderator to move it. A quick PM will usually get it done. If there's been no responses consider deleting it and re-posting it in a more appropriate sub-forum. Thanks:D
