92 tranny and transfer case in an 85?!

Okay, reverse went out in my w56. And, well... 3rd gear isnt seeming to terribly great anymore. A friend, well... acquaintance of mine has the tranny and transfer case from his 92 4runner that he totalled and said if i gave him 50 bucks, its mine. Tranny works fine. T case works fine too. My question! Will it bolt up to my 22re? Ive rebuilt my motor, replaced 75% of everything on that truck. I know that truck inside and out. EXCEPT. My tranny. Will it bolt up? I mean, if it doesnt... its 50 bucks. I can sell it for a lot more. I just miss having reverse when im out wheeling. Any help is welcomed!

What motor was in the '92? If it was the V6 that trans will not bolt up to your 22RE, you'd have to find a bell housing. If he had the 22RE too then it'll bolt to the back of your motor just fine. If he doesn't have the clutch slave anymore you'll have to get a new one, I don't think your W56 clutch slave will work. I can't speak to how it'll line up in the tranny tunnel, you might have to modify the shifter opening and console on top to get it to look right, for one thing I'm pretty sure the R150 tcase is forward shift and your RF1A is top shift, although if you don't care how it looks you can just take out the console completely and run bare shifters. You might have to modify your crossmember too, I'd be willing to bet the R150 won't line up on it. Then on top of all that, you won't have the RF1A gear drive case anymore and it won't be nearly as cheap to run a doubler or tcase gears when you get to that point in your build.

All in all, probably too much effort to make it work, even for $50. I've never rebuilt a transmission, but the W56 is supposed to be pretty easy to work on and a master rebuild kit is only $250, I think I'd do that before I tried to make an R150 fit.

You want to take a 92 W56 and t-case and bolt it to your 85 22RE ?
Yeah it'll work fine, I put a W56 (also 92) on the 22R in my 84.
Both the G52 in the 84 and the late W56's use forward shift t-cases.
But the t-cases themselves aren't directly interchangeable.
