I Have a first gen and I don't know your equipment. I dont know if they share fluid,They use the same kind of fluid, but you should be able to check the transfer case fluid at the rear on the chain drive housing. There is a big bolt you take out and the case is full if fluid runs out. To fill it funnel fluid in that hole until it starts to overflow.

Thanks for the reply. I had to put a new gasket on the transfer case pan and am pretty sure they share fluid because they both fill from the upper fill tube. The back of the transfer case, I think where the chain is has a seperate bolt and fill plug. I filled it to spec and checked it later and it was over filled. Just wondering if there is a seal that is shot as to why it was over filled ? Make any sense ?

The only on I have seen is in my rock crawler. when taken apart they are open to each other.

Just in case your still looking for an answer, the transfer case do not share fluid with the transmission. On your transfer case, there is a small drain plug on the bottom and a big fill bolt a few inches above that. To drain and fill it just remove the drain plug with an allen key. Cap it back up than remove the fill plug and fill it until fluid runs out the fill hole. You will need a long funnel or attach a hose to the end of a funnel to make this job easier. Hope this helps.

Sorry to necropost but...
Whoever owned my 93 before me got around replacing the pan gasket on the transfer case by using black RTV silicone. Of course, now it's leaking again, and I've been trying to find a replacement gasket.
You say you replaced the gasket, did you happen to get it from a Toyota dealer or somewhere else? My local toyota dealer tried to sell me the transmission pan gasket, and after trying to explain that there is a second pan BEHIND the transmission pan gasket he looked at me like I had lobsters crawling out of my ears:bash:. Would love to know where you found one!

They are separate. Either your transfer case cooler has a crack or the seal between the two is shot (like you mentioned).
If the cooler is cracked that is really bad, the transmission is dumping its fluid into the T-case. If this is the case, the transmission will go dry and burn up or stop working due to no fluid.
If the seal is blown then it will even out the fluid between the two. This is not as bad, but still needs to be addressed.
