93 4Runner won't shift into 2nd

I have a 93 4Runner with an automatic transmission. The coolant line broke, trashing my whole transmission so I had to get it replaced, and they replaced the whole thing (including soleniods), and it is still under warranty.
I drove it for a few months after it was fixed and it was fine, then noticed it seemed to be revving high when it shifted into 2nd gear. This kept getting worse, until finally it would go over 3000rpm's before shifting, the go into 2nd and third at almost the same time.

I took it back into the shop that did the transmission, and they replaced the clutch, but that didn't fix the problem.
Next they replaced the speed sensor and kickdown cable. They test drove it and said it was fixed.

I picked it up and it wasn't.

But I did notice that if it is cool, it works great. (Which is why they thought it was fixed. They only did a 5-10 minute test drive) After driving for 20 minutes or so, it starts to act up. Anything over 20 minutes and it is nearly undriveable. It was revving all the way up into the 4500rpm range before shifting into 2nd.

All the other gears seem fine.

Any ideas based on these symptoms? They have no idea.

Sorry I can't help, I would just manual swap it.

Side note:
You had an HJ45? There's a guy around the corner from here with 2 HJ45's, an FJ45, and a Mercedes-Benz Unimog. I drool buckets driving past.

Those land cruisers are just the coolest things ever. How do you like the 4Runner compared?

4Runner is much more comfortable. I have to drive a lot with my job, which is why I got rid of the troopie.

I'm no expert but it sounds like a bad solenoid. Will it go into second if you shift manually?

No. Manually makes no difference. They replaced the solenoids when they replaced the transmission

That's beyond me then. I think your transmission is busted.

I'd be for having that shop build you another transmission, or refunding you your bill and taking it somewhere else.

They are. And they are just as confused as everyone on here seems to be. The whole thing is under warranty, The second time they replaced the clutches. Then the items I said earlier. This time they are replacing everything again.
I was just hoping someone on here would know something more.

you said you ran it out of fluid.... and they have replaced the wearable parts... have they even touched the valve body?

yeah i know its unlikely that running a transmission out of fluid would cause any major issues with the valve body but it is possible if the transmission was run out of fluid over a longer period of time (say a road trip where you forget to check fluids between fuel stops or daily commute where you may go a few months with out checking fluids... i have seen some weird shit happen lol)...


does it not go in to second at all up shift or down shift? (those are 2 questions there and 2 separate situations that do each)
