93 Electrical Problem

I have a 93 4runner, it idles fine, as soon as I turn on the lights, It dies INSTANTLY. I mean, it doesn't slowly loose RPM or cough and sputter, it dies as if you turned off the ignition. When I try to restart, it doesn't even click or try to turn over,...nothing. If I jump it, it starts fine, I let it run awhile, I remove the cables, I turn on the lights, it dies instantly again. Brand new generator just put in, battery is less than 1 year old. Can someone give me a clue? I guess it could be the battery, but it's nearly brand new.

When it dies though, no fuses are blown. Do all shorts blow fuses?

No, a high resistance short wont always blow a fuse.
The lights maybe drawing more current than the alt can supply, so the voltage drops lower than the EFI ECM can handle, so it craps out.
I think your problem is more likely a loose/dirty connection, on a supply or ground wire.
Could be battery or alt cables, but not limited to those
Otherwise, I'd suspect bad battery or alt.

Did you use and OEM or something like a bosch or something. Toyota's like Denso I have had problems with other starters and alternators on my 92 ended up just having the originals rebuilt and returned the brand new ones.. Heck I once installed a Bosch starter went to turn the truck on and the starter stuck on had to go disconnect the battery lead to stop it checked it looked fine worked fine for about 4 starts and it did it again. After that I was told on then on another toyota site to rebuild and not to use aftermarket on those parts..Hope this helps
