93 v6 timing degree?

G'day all, my first ever question so I hope it's not a silly one but I just bought a 93 v6 (vzn130) and it didn't have a Manuel and I'm trying to time it cause its a bit rough, I've serviced it...

So what is the timing on this motor meant to be set at degree wise?? I've searched here but couldn't find and info...

Thank's, and happy 4x4ing, Beau.

There is a sticker in the enging compartment that will tell you how many degrees. Though, I think the timing electronically controlled.

*Experienced Advise: turn the timing in so the "bounce" that's inherent in our engine's falls back into the 10 degree spot. Why I love my Snap-On, I can re**** the gun and set it and forget it.

[EDIT]WTH?

OK, that's a technical term, the forum blocks r e t a r d but likes advance? Aparently I'm too old school and we have to call it "slow down" instead?

Fok, next thing you know I can't call my cutters dikes.

mine doesn't like me... jumping the E1 and TE1 terminals or something like that doesn't kill the computer control no later how much I play with the tps...so I set mine by the way the exhaust smelled. lol.

hey the emissions test i ran after didn't lie...measured in ppm at 2000 rpm.

Factory is 10, but you can feel noticeable power gains in 13-15 range.

*Depends on where you are though, anytime I get beyond 11 mine goes all batsh!t b/c of CA Gas, even with 91 octane it will ping going up any grade in the Sierras.

More advice needed

Ok, I set timing at 10 degrees, after following the steps in my manual-setting at 10 degrees, bridging te1 & e1... But it still read at 10 when I unabridged terminals...

It was at Toyota getting new rocker gaskets so I had them chech it and they said it was fine...

Yesterday ( a month after it was at Toyota) I wanted to advance the timing gradually and see if any power gains were noticeable so I pulled out the timing equip ( gun, bridge wire etc) and the timing was at about 15 degrees... I was puzzled... So I set it back at 10 and went for a drive, felt the same to me...

So my questions are as follows-:

Why when I take the bridging wire off will it not go back from 10 to 8 degrees?
Also, when I first got it I painted the pully groove mark making it easy to view-but is there only one timing groove in the crank pully, or am I missing another, or multiple by any chance?

Any help would be good. I'm trying to move in small steps, but can't get a solid baseline to start from...

Thanks, Beau.

Same Issue!!

I can't get my 93 4runners ignition timing to factory spec either. IAW the factory manual timing is set with engine at normal operating temperature, RPM’s 800+/-50 and at 10deg BTDC with TE1-E1 jumpered. When you remove jumper wire TE1-E1 it should then return to 8deg BTDC. Mine goes to 15deg BTDC….My mates did the exact same thing (same engine 3vze but a year earlier in production)
It has me stumped where to go...

SO...if you don't jumper it, can't you just set it to 8?
