'94 4runner questions

Iv'e been trying to find a replacement for my '99 t4r. ( see post: 50 mph head on.)
Any way, most of the runners I've llooked at are 8 to 9 grand and need some work.
I found a local '94 thats owned by a toyota enthusiast (several off road only rigs) thats clean and has had timing belt, tune up, new tires ect.
I am wondering if there is any major reasons to stay away from pre '96.
I do like the fact that there is less eletronics to go out.

Any imput will be greatly appreciated.

I drive a 93 pretty much as a DD. I've got a 4inch lift and 33s and I love it. The biggest thing with this gen is headgasket problems. Mine overheated bad about 2 months ago, and the headgasket is still intact. Like anything, if its been maintained well, then you'll be fine.

Thanks for the reply. Do these get about the same milage as the 3.4's ?

What were you getting with your 3.4? Your probably see around 20mpg. Depends on what engine/tranny you pick. The 3.0 isnt a bad motor as long as maintenance has been kept up. Notorious for head gaskets blowing, hence the importance of maintenance. And avoid the 3.0 if it has a auto tranny behind it.

The 22RE is great and super reliable, but youll defiantly notice the lack of power from the 5VZE.

There really isnt that much electronics on these, unless you get a first gen with a carb'ed 22R.

I think you need to keep looking. I see early 3rd gens in great condition on sale here for $4000-$5000 all the time.

If you go to a 2nd or 1st gen you'll definitely notice a decrease in power, the 22RE and 3VZE are not powerful motors. If you're not used to it, you may not enjoy the truck as much.
