94 swap

Hey guys looking at doing a 3.4L swap from your generation into mine. A few questions though, How reliable is your 3.4L? Also i was thinking about getting a Turbocharged model for extra power, is it worth it? I currently run the 3.0L (not sure how many are familiar) There's a lot better motors needless to say haha but i like how the 3.4 will bolt right up. Anyways let me know your opinions on the motor and ease of working on ability or any other things you feel i should know. Thanks guys!

The 3.4 is a great motor. Many, many people get to 300K with these motors. Do the maintenance and they will last. Change the timing belt every 80K and your good to go.

I don't know much about turbos, but there are several on here who do. I suggest a search in the 3rd gen forum for "turbo" and you should be able to read for days. Many also run the TRD supercharger for the 3.4. Lots of info on here about it as well.

Good Luck!

i thought about the supercharge but i wanted to keep my lower rpm's slower for trails and such. I figured the supercharger would mess that up for me. Whereas a turbo needs time to build up thus slow trails wouldn't bug me. How many mpg's do you get? Well i'll well maintain it for sure.

I would think the supercharger would be better due to torque, but hey, to each his own.

I get around 18 on the hwy, 16 city.

Well i debated on the super charger because dont you need the 7th injector with it? I was going to supercharge it for awhile then thought about turbo. I'm just trying to get opinions of people who might actually be running it. By chance do you know if the supercharged adds any height to the motor? (clearance issues with the swap into the 2nd gen, need to already put a scoop on or a 2in BL to fit the motor.)

If you want more power you will need more fuel, doesn't matter if you go supercharger or turbocharger, a 7th injector or better yet 6 larger than factory injectors will be a must have to safely make more power than stock.

Whats the power gain of 6 larger injectors with out a spch or tch? 7th injector has to come factory on the motor or is a giant pain right?

larger injectors w/ out the air won't net you any power gain. But 6 larger injectors means you will distribute fuel equally into all the cylinders, and don't risk puddling inside an intake manifold that was never designed to flow fuel.

If you want torque, go with a V8. It will cost you about the same either way.

A forced air 3.4 or a normally aspirated 4.7
