this is my sisters 95 4runner with the v6 she started it up one morning and when she put it into reverse the CEL light came on then she parked it. then she went out to go get the code tester so she started it back up and there was no cel so i put the tester on it anyways to find any pending codes and 52 came up and came up as a knock unit sensor. she drove it again this morning came on turn the car off started it back up it was off. so what happens if she keeps driving on this with a bad knock sensor? we are saving up for it cause its 160 at autozone. thanks

The ECU will re**** the timing, and power and mpg will suffer.
A lot of time it's the wire for the sensor that's bad, not the sensor.

OK, the r-e-t-a-r-d-e-d software here doesn't like the word r-e-t-a-r-d and keeps replacing it with ****.

Let's just say a code 52 results in your engine being timing challenged. :)

having the problem with mine right now had to advance the timing to get it to run right for now untill i can tear down again to ck the sensor . from what im told on the v6 this is a common problem and may just be the wiring going to the sensor may be corroded . i got lucky and found a sensor at the wrecking yard and got it home and ohm it out and it is good so when i get the chance to tear it down the first thing im going to check will be the wiring going to the sensor

Trouble Code 52 is going to kill me.

I have a 95 Toyota 4runner V6 with a trouble code of 52.
I pull the engine apart installed a new Knox sensor and the harness and I still had a 52 trouble code. Reading some paper work I found out the Knox sensor requires you to torque it at I believe it to be 28 ft lbs, so back apart it came with the new gaskets and all torqued it down and closed it up and still have code 52.
So Now I purchased a ECU (used) put it in and yep 52. I m trying to get it to pass California smog and this is the last of many things I've done to do this.
EX: My timing was stuck on 52 BTC for the longest time, EGR system rusted out, the vacuum Hoses all of them the Distributer and many other things on the list. With a harness coasting $620.00. and the Knox wire in the harness being a center conductor with a braded shield around it is there a wire with the plug on it I can get to splice into the system at the ECU because I'm really at the end of my patience limit with the car. I love it and I've had it forever but enough is enough. Does some one have an answer to this problem.
I can't even sell it unless it passes smog. SOMEONE HELP!!!
