*****95' 4x4, Rubbing Noise When Cold While Turning*****

On a cold start when i turn left pulling out of my apt parking lot, it sounds like a rubbing light grinding noise when turning the wheel all the way to the left. But it totally goes away after driving for 5 minutes. What could that be? .....Thats in advance.

Was it also wet too?

My friend has a 1995 Lexus SC300 & his brother has an 2002 Lexus IS300 & they get some noise when the brakes or the weather is wet. Only for the 1st few mines.

I noticed the exact thing on my 2007 Camry & recently noticed it on my 2007 4Runner. To be honest...I'm not too worry about it.

Check the steering stops, if the plastic cover is gone (common) you have metal-on-metal.
It wouldn't go away when warm, but it's a simple thing to check.

Yeah mine does that when turning both ways, full lock, specially if you go over a bump.
Kinda sounds like a grinding metal sound. 8)

+1 but iirc they are called knuckle stoppers, dont really need to replace them, they only rub when turned lock to lock

I get the exact same thing (except when i turn right) in my '91, can't seem to figure it out either...

if the plastic caps are gone...which they probably are, just put some axle grease on them. It won't last forever, but it works; if it starts again just put another dab on them.

God I thought, my truck is falling apart, i have the same issue.

I am missing those plastic caps, and the axle grease does work. But this is a different issue, it seems to come from the driver's side wheel/brake. It's more of a light grinding (like davidclark described) and as the car warms up it goes away...not sure what causes it...
