95 Runner, Engine Swap Info??

Hello all,

Does anybody out there have some info on/or give me some websites to hit on engine swapping a 95 runner. I might get a 95 runner with a blown engine here in a couple days. I'm not a huge fan of the 3.0liter. I need to find some websites for info on swapping the 3.0 either for the 3.4liter or small blocking it with a 350. Although the 350 I'm sure would be cheaper, I would still like to go with the 3.4.

I just wanna scope out some prices on new brackets/kits etc. for doing the conversion. If it will be too expensive, I might just throw another 3.0 in there and try to massage a few more pony's out of it. I just don't like that engine a whole lot....

Any help would be great!!!!

After doing a bit of research, I think I'm going to just rebuild the 3.0, I'll port and polish the head and throw some rv performance cams in it, then header's... It won't be a power house, but it should do alright, and will still be TOYOTA!!!
 
i can get a reman bottom end for 1200...about 150 to get the heads reworked...200 for a gasket kit...water pump..ign parts ect another 150 or so...and you got a brand spankin new 3.0...
 
Yeah, a rod is gone and I think the crank is toast. I haven't ripped into it yet, I just got it the night before last. But the previous owner ran it completely dry, and it would be a costly overhaul...

I think I'm gonna just throw a crate engine in, it would probably run about the same price as overhauling it, with a lot less work.
 
a crate motor will run you in the neigborhood of 3 grand..those heads should still be good...id go for a new bottom end..

The heads I'm sure are good, but I'm willing to bet the valves are fried... Oregon Engine Rebuilders, (not crate motor) will sell the 3VZ-E long block for 1695$, I've called a few places today. The instructors in my Toyota technician program said that O.E.R. is pretty reputable. I think I'm going to go with them because when I talked to them on the phone, I asked what kind of warrenty they offered on that engine. The dude said "unlimited milage, lifetime warrenty----As long as your the owner of the vehicle and provide reciepts/logs of oil changes".

So, for that price/warrenty I don't think I can go wrong. That, and they've been going strong since 1983.

I'm sure they have other yota engines, but that's the only 2 in their ad.

Did you ever get an engine from OER? If so, how was it?

I just got a '90 with over 285,000mi. got it for less than a song and dance ($500 + Radiator, Fan clutch, and fan.) The engine is weak and I am starting to plan for the inevitable replacement / rebuild. Personally, I prefer to replace than rebuild.
 
o.e.r. has an e-bay store. we were looking at them for a crate motor for my 90. they offer the stock 3vze on there for 1500.00$ or the "performance" engine with big cams etc for 1995.00$ my husband works for a major auto parts chain in their machine shop and said thats cheaper than what we could build ours for.
