96 4runner 88k miles

Hey

new poster here! Been looking at 4runners trying to find a good one for a while for a decent price.

Question found a beauty at the stealership. 2 owners they took immaculate condition of it absolutely no rust ran great no accidents.

96 with 88k miles buy there asking 6500 im thinking I can maybe get them to drop it another 500 because the tires are in crappy shape very old and cracking.

Anyways think im getting ripped off or good deal? Kbb says 5k Max

I'd offer $5,000. If they say no, go for $6. Shoot low and go from there. Don't buy something for $6,000 when you could possibly get it cheaper.

I paid $6k for my 97 with 130k on it.
 
So apparently the dealership has had alot of interest and won't budge a penny even. Now normally im great at haggling but ive tried every trick in the book. Should I just pull the trigger or no.

I would try to get them to put new tires on it for you and if they will pay 65
 
You could also ask to see their invoice for it. They might have a $600 advertising fee in there or some crap like that. Like they really spend $600 advertising a 17 year old truck.
 
with that low miles and if as perfect as your are saying, pay what you have to but always shoot low and bargain. As a salesman, I got my t4r for 6500. The guy was asking 8 and I offered him 6. He went down 5 I went up 2 I went to 65 and said that or I walked.

Some people are dumb and sell for less. You can get it :) Keep us updated! I would love to see it when you get it! Good luck!

They always say that. If you're a serious buyer with cash you're in control. They should at least work with you on the tires. If it goes before you can make a deal, oh well, there are a ton of these out there. Verify the odometer reading. I found a few rolled back during my search.

It's hard to tell without the full context (pics, details, etc). But on paper it doesn't sound too bad. I'm just not a fan of small independent dealerships (or dealerships in general when I'm buying used with cash).

It's always fun to find what you think is what you've been looking for, but now is the time to think very objectively.

Got an ad you can point us too? Have you driven it and done a thorough inspection? History report check out? Do your homework and IF everything checks out, 6500 for 88k miles sounds good to me. Just be cautious and if you decide to pull the trigger try to bargain, it never hurts to try your hardest.

Someone on this forum just posted last week about getting ripped off.

They bought a 97 with < 100K and never did the background check.

After they bought they found out Surprise it actually had 200,000+ miles.

Be sure to Carfax as well as get it mechanically inspected, including out on a lift.
 
Hard to say without more specs, but a Limited in excellent condition is priced at $5,700 on KBB. I know you pay more for dealership, but you can prob get them down. They always say that nonsense about "there's a lot of interest in this car" blah blah. Maybe if you get them to put on new tires like some of the other members have said AND ask for $6,500 OTD?
