my 96 4R v6 SR5 is running sluggish, no power at times when taking off from stop or trying to get up speed on the on ramps.. takes forever to get to speed. this is not all the time it comes and it goes. I have had it looked at at 3 places. I took it in because i was thinking plugs/wires or even fuel filter. the drove it and said it was the tranny. Then tranny guys says no, and the only codes he found were in the history for misfire on cylinders 1 and 4. and that it was the coil on top of the plugs. I went back to have that fixed and was informed it is not that coil/plugs/wires are fine. I had the 3 place take a look and and check the fuel system pressure thinking maybe fuel pump but he says pressure is normal. Help please i don't know what to do next with no codes or warning lights.

So, intermittent loss of power and the only codes that can be found are for cylinder misfires. If nobody can tell you anything different, I'd follow the "smoke" to the fire. The only smoke I see is the misfire codes. Any idea if/when the coils or even the plugs were changed? If not, replace them all with new wires. If they tell you nothing is wrong with them, just tell them to humor you and do it anyway. Does it seem to stumble and run rough when you encounter the scenario - or just plain slow but smooth? If it's misfiring, I would think you would feel it. I haven't had that happen in my 4runners but I have in another car and you could definitely feel the engine shuttering.
its seem to be idling just fine its not rough just bogged down and like i said it will be fine for a day or two and the all of a sudden i go to take off from a stop and bogs down and just does not seem to wanna goooo. I can never tell when it is gonna happen so driving it is a little nerve wracking. the misfire code was in the computers history and im not really sure what differnce that makes. The guy i have looking at it now wants to check for clog in exaust system but i just had a cat installed about 3 weeks ago also, since mine had been stolen.
oh yeah and i have only had this truck about 6 months so im not sure when a tune up was done last. think that i why it was my first thought. My sister just went through pretty much all the same symptoms and it turned out to be the fuel pump that passes a pressure test and went out on her.
