96 Having Trouble Turning Over

This is my first post, but I want to let you all know that this forum is the reason I decided to buy a 4runner years ago instead of another SUV.

I have a beautiful 96 3rd that has around 255k miles on it. I've had very little problems since purchasing two years and 50k miles ago. Last summer I replaced the fuel pump and alternator, and just recently replaced the starter.

For the last few months, every time take it out, if I try to start it again after leaving it off for 45 minutes or less, it won't start the first time. Some times if I hold the ignition and give it a little gas it will start, sometimes I have to wait a few minutes and try again. Usually it starts back up, but it is very frustrating.

We thought it was the starter, and replacing that seemed to help for a few days, or maybe I just didn't drive it like I was, but now it's back to normal. Seems to help if it cold outside. If it is warm it could take several minutes to get me to start it.

Any ideas? My mechanic and family of auto enthusiasts are stumped. I'm thinking it's the fuel ignition system.
