96 limited runner with no heat

Hey guys...need your help here...i did a search on the form and not able to find an answer...

question.....96

not blowing hot air......just had timing belt/pump/thermostat done....everything burpped and good.....but still no heat to the cabin when i put the switch onto hot.....any thoughts???


heater core gone bad??? or something stuck???

anything would help

once its up to temp, verify that both heater hoses going into the firewall are hot.

if they are, you have a blend door problem.

if one is hot, and the other cool, or just warm, then its the heater core, clogged.


my bet is on the blend door being stuck.

Also check to see the cable that controls the heater valve (by the firewall) is moving so it opens and closes the valve properly.

ok guys, i have tried the blend door...and it seems to be fine...now im getting cold/warm air when i put it on the MAX heat setting......

anything the else???? im starting to lean towards the heater core =(

and is it hard to replace the heater core??? if so...any write ups avaliable????

IF the heater core is leaking you should lose coolant. Have you checked the coolant level? You also have to check the coolant level in the reserve tank. IF you see the level is going down, there is a leak!

You can also check the water drain coming out from the AC evaporator. IF the water in the drain is oily and smells like coolant, heater core is leaking.

Regardless of the leak, if there is a flow of water in the heater core, you should get hot air.

How did you burp the system?
Follow this, if you haven't:
When the engine is cold, open the radiator cap.
Start the engine, and select the hot position in the control panel (this will allow the water to run through the heater core)
Let the engine to warm up. The lower radiator hose must reach 88 C to open the thermostat.
Wear a pair of goggles (for safety) and look for a nice flow of water in the top tank. If you see the level goes down, then there is an air bubble trapped and it is getting cleared!
Add more coolant to bring the right level.
