I'm trying to find out what the gear ratio is on my factory thirds (96 SR5 4wd no elocker). The axles are removed so I can't count revolutions. Are there numbers in my VIN that tell me what it is?

You can figure it out from the VIN. Here's how.

You can call a local toyota dealership and they can tell you. All you need is to look at the data plate in the drivers door jam.
If you look at the pic above locate the vin # Above the bar code. Supposedly the dealership can look it up with the vin but I have tried with no luck. What they can look up the ratio with is the 4 digit code to the right of the bar code. In the pic above it is A04A. Its the 4 digits after A/TM.
My suggestion is to call atleast 2 maybe 3 dealerships because not all of them are right or know what they are looking at.

^^^ That's been my experience as well. They don't know what they are looking at when I call and ask questions regarding my VIN. I may just have to go ahead and pull the third to count the teeth.
