'97 4Runner bulbs

For all the 3rd Gen owners who have installed clear corners/turn signals on their truck, what bulbs did you use? Right now I have orange bulbs in the corners, but they are kind of a nasty cheap orange when lit up. I believe the bulbs are 1156's (turns) and 2825's (parking). I am trying to find some good bulbs that have silver glass (so they don't show in the clear housing) and illuminate amber. How are the Silverstar 1156's? If there were corner bulbs to match them I would buy a set.

Try the PIAA orange bulbs they should be the top of the line. I just picked up Silverstar bulbs today at Advance auto (On sale 19.99 1/2 off 2nd bulb - 5.00 mail in rebate). Now they said they did not have any silverstars for my other lights. I need a bulb that will match the headlights for the corner lights and I have Hella dealer installed driving light anyone know what I can do for bulbs in these lights? Thanks Chris

I cheked the Sylvania website and have the part # however they do not show any thing in the silverstar line for these other lights. Will PIAA lights look ok in there? or is there another barnd i should try. I am thinking that with the silverstar bulbs my corner lights will not look right. anyone done this before did it look ok? or what brand should i try?

Ok so I did some more research and ordered my upgraded hella bulbs to get the white HD look. total cost 25. for the bulbs w/ shipping. So now my only question is what about the #2825 side marker/ turn bulbs? any thing out there for this one?

Yeah I'm still looking for a good set of 2825's. Are the Hella's you got 1156 or 1157? Where did you get them?

I have a differant style Hella light, however I ordered the bulbs from www.rallylights.com 55w Xenon white for 9.98 ea. I have bought other stuff this company before and they have great service. they carry all kinds of lighting products and bulbs.
Not sure if it is 1157 or 1156 I just ordered the bulbs from a chart that I have for Hella

Did you have problems removing the retaining spring from behind the bulbs? I tried to remove it but I could not get it to release? Any ideas? Also how to you like the skify XM radio, I am wanting Xm but can not decide what unit I want. I liked the commander unit but it Does not look like my OEM radio has preouts.

Ok I tried again and was able to replace the bulbs, it was so easy I dont know why i didnt get it the first time. I replaced one side with the silverstair bulb and left the other side with the standard bulb, I turned on the headlights and I could really tell a differance, and this was in the daylight!!!!! I cant wait to see both silverstar lights after dark!!!!!!

Yeah, sometimes the headlight retaining clip is a little tight from what I remember. I will have to check out that site for some new signal bulbs.

I really like my XM radio. I was unsure about it until two of my good friends got it, then I was sold. If you decide to get it, go for the SkyFi 2 unit. Most of the interface is the same as the original SkyFi, but it has a few improvements.

I picked up the Tuner, Home kit, Car kit, and wired FM modulator off of eBay for $230 (SkyFi 1). Then there was a $30 XM new subscription rebate. The sound quality is pretty good through the modulator, but it is exceptional with the home kit connected to my home stereo. I considered buying a built-in unit, but the benefits of using it in the house and in the car far outweighed that option. The only downside to where I installed it is that it kind of blocks the cigarette lighter and ash try (where I keep coins). I'm going to add more outlets to fix the problem though. Here is a picture of where it is installed in my car (I had to brighten the image a bit):

Thanks, I wish my OEM radio had preouts on it so I could hard wire an XM unit, for better sound. I notice you went with a single din head unit. Does it look ok in the dash? I am thinking about getting a double din radio that is XM ready but I am having a hard time finding double din units. Single din Xm head units are everywhere.

I thought about replacing mine with a double DIN at one point, but I couldn't find something I liked enough to justify replacing the perfectly good one that I have now. Mine is pretty basic though, but it sounds fine. If the pre-outs are keeping you from getting XM, I wouldn't worry about it. I am pretty picky when it comes to sound quality, but the XM modulated is still miles better than a good radio station reception. Not to mention all the channels and variety without commercials is awesome.

I also looked for a double DIN XM unit that I liked, but no luck.

Thanks, that is what I have been wanting to know, I like music but I am not really into spending a bunch of money on sound systems. I think the stock unit sounds pretty good, but I hate the commericals and am wanting to get away from spending so much money on CD's.

Just realized the topic changed from bulbs to XM. Anyways, I bought some Hella FF75 fog lights and I am having trouble figuring out how to change the bulbs in them. I am going to put the yellow bulbs (similar to a Lexus setup) in the Hellas, and the casing seems difficult to break into, so to speak. Anyone know how to disassemble these lights?

I figured it out, the 2 bolts that hold the mounting bracket on keep the light assembly from being removed from the casing. Should have thought of that sooner...

Funny you should ask... I have lost 2 auctions now on eBay for those Silverstar 1157's. The first auction I lost in the last 10 seconds, and the 2nd auction ended today about an hour after I checked it at work. Know any cheap places to order them from?

My clear bumber lights came today, Jason was really nice and pre installed amber bulbs for me but you can tell they are in there. I was thinking about the silverstars, but they say they look blue when off, not sure how that might look inside of the light. Advance Auto sells the silverstar signal 2 pack for 19.99, and untill 01/01/05 there is a $5 mail in rebate so it will only cost 14.99 for the set. I think you can order online from www.advanceauto.com. Have you ever seen these bulbs in a clear lamp, just wondering how it might look. I am going to go buy mine tommorrow and just hope that I like how they look when installed. Have a great Holiday!!
