I am wrapping up a frame swap on my 97 4runner Limited. I reused my gas tank, fuel lines and evap box and such. I did swap the fill neck.
Now my issue is that my 4runner wont take fuel. Gauge shows 1/4 tank, and was working correctly when I began the swap. The gauge showed around a 1/4 tank just before the swap. When I went to the station to get fuel, it takes about 1/4 gal before backing up out of the fill neck, down the side of my runner....
The only lines that I disconnected where right in front of the tank. They where the pressure line (feed), return line, and the Evap box line. I assume thats the vent/purge line. I pulled the fill neck hose off the tank and stuck a screw driver down into the tank where I found a flapper door. I pushed gently against the flapper door until it opened. As soon as it opened you could hear a little bit of pressure being released. I assume that was keeping the door closed preventing fuel from flowing into the tank... After hearing the pressure vent, I put the fill neck back on, and went back to the station. Same thing, 1/4 gal and it backs up. I come back home, pull the neck back off, and fuel runs out of the neck and is standing in the gas tank fill opening. I again run my screw driver down into the opening where I again push on the flap. I bubble of air come out of the tank and the remaining fuel falls into the tank. Once the pressure is vented, the flap moves freely and take almost no effort to open. The weight of the screw driver resting on it is enough to open it...
has anyone had this problem before? does anyone have a diagram of the fuel lines and there correct location? would anyone be willing to crawl under there 4runner and look at how yours is set up? (96-00 with the evap box on the left inner fender)
