'97 Antenna

Well my first power antenna got bent up so I had to get another one, and after maybe two months this one makes a horrible grinding sound when it goes up, almost like its hyperextending.... Does anyone know what may be causing this or how to fix it? I tried taking it off and putting it back on but no luck...

I think I might just want to change it so its not a Power Antenna anymore and just get a normal one. Would I have to take out the antenna motor to do this? Or could I just stick in a universal and clip the wiring to the motor so it doesnt activate? Thanks

take out ur radio unplug the antenna and then pull up the antenna mines been broke for years all i listen to is cd's so its fine

You can unplug the antenna's motor from its power source by digging up under the front wheel well. This will keep your antenna connected to your stereo, but the motor won't grind anymore when you power on the stereo. Do some searches on here for instructions on how to do this.

Do you have to take the wheel off to get to the plug? Can you just lay under the truck and reach it to unplug it?
