'97 Limited 4wd Q.

Alright, I drag race chevy's and we had a shop truck (above) that needed some R&R. 273373 miles on it but in decent condition. New timing set, new head gaskets, new cooler lines and maintenance done and I bought it as a little less gas guzzling driver.
Here's my question being new to T4R's, because I think i have a grasp on what's going on but maybe i"m missing something.... I have the 5VZ-FE, auto. The shifter has an OD push button on it and corresponding dash light. i have the RR differential button left of steering wheel. The ECT button on console & the transfer case lever that is L4-N-H. I seem to be missing how to shift into 4WD-High. I had thought that the OD button on the shifter was a 4WD button but no. I'm also guessing it's not in 4wd High constantly. We really never used the 4wd function at the shop and I would like to make sure the hubs and case get used and lubed. The question is where do I engage and disengage 4WD high with this set up? Should be simple, right?

Can you post a pic of your transfer case shifter? There should be 4 positions

4 HI - 4 Lo - 2 Hi - N

If you have a limited model 4Runner, it should have the multi-mode transfer case, unless the 97 models didn't have it?

Anyway, you can pull the transfer case lever back one notch to 4wd hi mode, or you can leave it in it's normal 2wd hi mode notch, and then push the AWD button on the transfer case to allow it to only lockup into awd mode and not full 4x4 mode. Don't try and put into both modes though. Use one or the other.

It is not a multimode set-up. It is a basic 4wd it just uses a button to engage 4wd. There is a button on the left side of the transfer case shifter. Hit that and the light will come on once the 4wd engages. Make sure you drive it abit so the 4wd can engage.

Thanks guys. There was a button on the transfer case lever. Brain disconnect... check to make sure light is good. I can actually hear it engage in low noise traffic. Sounds like i just need a new bulb. Looking forward to checking out what you guys are doing.
