97 limited high miles

Pretty good looking truck.

I'd try to find a paint shop or something that can media blast that area of rust, then just prime and paint yourself once it is cleaned.

Looks good man, nice buy. I'd tape off the areas with the good paint, sand down the rusted areas, primer, and some spray touch up from AutomotiveTouchup.com I think it;s called. they make very good factory matched paints. Then put the rubber seal back in place and forget it was ever there.

Thanks guys. After i get the maintenance up to date on this thing ill handle the rust. That bike is a garage build my friends and I finished about 2 years ago. Its got a 92 Harley sportster 1200cc motor with mild cams and 10:1 weisco pistons, the frame is a stock 88 sportster frame with a 4 inch stretched Led Sled weld on hard tail. Ive got some Buell XB heads Im swapping onto her this winter. Its a bare bones chopper and a lot of fun to blast around on. Its my primary mode of transportation since i sold my old truck.

I agree that you need to jump on that deal. I bought my 1998 Limited 4 runner from a construction company two years ago and it had 317,000 miles on it with all maintenance records. I think I gave $3800 for it. I have replaced the rear seals, battery and alternator. Still running strong at 327,000.

The only things I'd really worry about is the timing chain replacement and, if it's an auto tranny, replace the radiator/oiler cooler. Next, think about a new set of springs/coils. Then it will be good for another 200 K miles.

How many 3rd gens do you know with over 500,000 miles? I've seen a couple posted on this forum and others, but I think the overall age of the 3rd gen fleet is such that very few of them have gone that far.

Onesie-twosie examples don't really add to the discussion regarding the claim that 3rd gens are supposedly "known to go to 500k easily", which was my point.
