I am looking at a 1997 limited edition with ECT, fully loaded with power and rear differential lock with 184K miles. I asked if the timing belt had been changed and the answer was no. No leaks or problems stated from the owner. I am looking for a family camping and trail truck but am a little leary about the timing belt issue. Should I be worried or just possibly buy the truck and save up money to have it replaced soon? I am also worrying about all the power options the limited has, but not certain if this is a legitimate concern?? I have only been lurking here for a couple weeks and have read the buyers guide on 3rd gens and all. I am pretty capable with my hands and have rebuilt older cars before as well so I am not afraid to get my hands dirty. Please let me know if there is anything else I should be looking at and if my worries are sound or not. Thanks guys!

What about all the power options? Are these prone to fail over the SR5 and other models? Is this a legit concern?

I haven't read about them failing since I have been here. I don't read every thread but I do read a lot of them.
And just get the timing belt done. No harm has been done with it going that long.
One inference that can be made though is that if the timing belt has not been done, likely other imperative maintenance has not been done.
You can go to the toyota owners club website and see what has been done to it at a toyota dealer.
