'97 LTD... Newbie needs help!

Just bought (last Wed) a '97 Limited 2wd, 6cyl 160k....
1) The power locks are freaking out... cycling into the locked position numerous times while driving! Any ideas?
Are they supposed to lock automatically at a certain speed?

Does it have the extra cost security system (VIP-RS3000)? If so, it may be having a glitch.

My son's has it and the doors lock when the vehicle is started. I believe it can be programmed to engage the locks in different ways.

i have no idea....there was no remote sold with the vehicle...I don't know that ther ever was one. How would I know if this security system is installed?

If you have one then one your centre console by the armrest will have a clip-in piece that has RS 3000 on it and a microphone thingy. It may also be on your dash. Easiest way though is under the drivers seat if there is a black box that's the alarm system. If there's a box under there you have it.

If there's nuthin under the seat then it may have an aftermarket system that is having problems. Only thing I would recommend is having a stereo stop check it out. Maybe you want to add an alarm or remote start when you do this they can probably fix the issue at the same time.

try disconnecting the battery cleaning all contacts reconnecting and see if that helps.
