What is the easiest way to get pilot bearing out of donor engine? Donor came out of 5 speed manual 4Runner. How do I get it out of the back of the engine? Truck engine is going in has an automatic.

Thanks.

Get Some Room Underneath and clean

Yesterday I used a kiddie swimming pool and a pump garden sprayer filled with diesel fuel to cut thru the crud. I put the pool underneath where I am working and let the fuel drip into it. Then I strain it with a pair of pantyhose and reuse it.

Today I thought I would power wash it. Tomorrow I will treat with Phosphoric acid.

Lots of rust there. To me at least, I have had nothing but NW frames.

There is a bunch of ways to remove a pilot bearing. You can jam bread in there with a center punch, you can rent a tool and slide hammer from parts store, use grease and a center punch. The goal is to either get something behind it with the slide hammer, or pack things behind it and let the back pressure push the bearing out. Then pack it more and push it out slowly.

Thanks for the tips on the bearing. As far as rust I think that is all superficial. That truck is going to be awesome when cleaned and painted.

Going to change the Valve Cover gaskets.

Put Phosphoric acid in a garden pump sprayer and sprayed the undercarriage and engine bay.

Tomorrow I will use paint over rust product SEM Rust Shield with hardener. Hopefully will get motor bolted in tomorrow afternoon.

While Scrutinizing the Rust Prior to painting I found a problem

Rusted pretty bad in front of Driver side rear wheel on both sides of that frame rail.
I cut this piece out.

Then was distraught as to whether I should just use for parts or fix. Slept on it and decided to see what I could do today.

Sorry to rain on your repairs, but those welds look like shit and should not be put back on the road for yours and everyone's safety.

Really impressed on how you are tackling these repairs. Been dealing with rust on mine for a long time including cutting and replacing on the frame.

But, as mentioned above, I would seriously recommend having a certified welder (or atleast someone experienced) re-due that plate and mount. I like that you cut the plate big allowing for a lap weld but without proper equipment, technique, and experience, your running the risk of damage to yourself and others with what you have right now. Weld beads are supposed to look the way they do because that means full penetration and bond. also, That is a large amount of heat on a high stress point with that drop bracket also. Welds need to spread out over time.

Again, like the approach but had to say it.
