Hey experts,

I found another 4runner for sale, its a 97, 4x4, 1 owner, 288K. Its been sitting for 3 years i am being told. garage kept. No maintinance records. It starts, runs very rough and has no power. It does not have dual ground toyota plugs in it. It does have 3 year old gas. Tires are great. Interior is very dirty. Everything works. No accidents, body is straight and clean, frame looks great. Overall the car is very dirty and needs some cleaning.

What do you think would be a fair price or should I even mess with it? Gentlemen selling it said I can keep it at his facility and work on it if I want.

I feel like I could ebay this car for over $1k

Thoughts?

As a precaution I would look for the manufacture date of the tires. If they have been sitting for three years it begs the question of how old are they regardless of tread wear. Just another factor to help you be more indecisive :-D

Since he is letting you work on it you should consider doing a spark plug and wire replacement to see if that clears the ruff running and no power before you buy it

Now i am concerned about a blown head gasket, i don't have any experience with blown head gaskets, I am hoping its simply bad gas and wrong plugs....

What are they asking for it?

Why do you think it has a blown head gasket? I'd offer $375 yet no more than $500 in the end. Luck!

Any time a vehicle sits for a long time things go wrong. Everything from bad gas to bad rubber (tires, hoses, etc.) to leaking/unlubricated parts. You won't know the full extent of the damage until you drive it around for a few weeks but it's too late at that point.
