98 4runner build

Bought my 4runner 2 years ago and finally have time to start working on it. My first mods were painting the wheels and truck bed line the rocker panels and bumpers. After reading a bunch of threads on painting rims I decided to go for it. I used Rustoleum primer and dulipcolor graphite wheel paint.

Next up was the rocker panels. Used duplicolor truck bed liner. Used a fine cup brush to scuff up the paint and to clean some of the rust areas. used paint thinner to clean the surface before paint and went to town painting. After peeling the tape and paper off I got a little scare when the primer found its way to my black paint lol. Had to scrub hard with soap and water to get it off but phew. What I learned.. When using paper don't skimp on tape.

Next time for the bumpers. I used duplicolor truck bed liner again for the front then I ran out at midnight so had to go to walmart and all they had was rustoleum truck bed liner so i went for it. Looking back I should have just waited for morning and got more duplicolor but oh well the bumpers are temporary till i buy my off road bumpers. The front bumper was the easiest and the rear was a pain. Every other bolt was seized and a couple of the broke. Here's some pics of the front bumper. Ill upload pics of the rear tonight.

is that truck liner from a aerosal can? or a brush on style? I'm thinking of doing the same from my rocker panels.

Its from a aerosol can. I used rustOleum grey automotive primer for the first couple coats than Dulipcolor truck bed liner. Looking back i probably should have used black primer because i have a micro white line where the tape was.

Hey sorry to bring this thread back.. but I was just wondering about the duplicolor paint you used. You said it was graphite. Was this graphite gray or graphite mica?
Great looking truck by the way.. I hope to do that to my bumpers someday. Think you could post a few more pics showing the bumper from further away?like the whole car

I love the combination of the graphite colored wheels and black truck. I may look into doing this if I get tired of my polished aluminum...maybe.
