Hey guys! I just found this site while trying to figure out what to do about my 98 4Runner. Maybe someone here can help me.
It started running rough the other day then the check engine light came on so I hooked up my code reader and I am getting code 306, #6 cylinder misfiring.
I put a bottle of fuel injection cleaner in the last 2 tanks of gas and also a bottle of Heet. Neither helped. I changed plugs and wires. Also swapped the coil with another even though I didn

I hate to mention this but have you checked for signs of a blown head gasket? Does the oil look milky? I hope it's not that , but the problem exists so I would check for it. The compression could still look ok.

The oil on the dipstick looks fine. I could drain it to get a better look at it? The plugs are gapped correctly, I did them myself. The plug that I took out right after the miss started actually looked fine to me, but when I took out the new plug after a few days to check the compression it was black and sooty. I just figured it was cause the miss was getting worse.

It sounds more like the spark isn't getting to that cylinder. Was the plug wet at all when you pulled it? When you pull the plug after running it does the plug smell like gas?

No, it was not wet or smell like gas. But I can pull it again and double check. New plugs and new wires and I also swapped the coil pack with another one and the miss stayed with #6 cyl. What else could stop spark from getting to the plug?

Well it could be the connector to that coil but thats about all. You know, if the plug on that cylinder was white I would think not enough fuel, and if it's black I would think too rich, or not igniting.

It's possible the insulator was cracked during installation allowing the spark to leak to ground. Check the white ceramic part of the plug for cracks.

That happened to me one time. The engine was shaking and running really rough. I took it to autozone and it came out misfire in cylinder #6. All I did was changed the sparkpulgs and wires and it went away.

Good Luck and keep us posted in case someone run into the same problem.
