98 Limited 4WD

Good Evening y'all,

I just got my 98 4Runner and I tried to engage 4H IAW with manual, and I do not get any indications on the dash. I am able to engage 4L and I get the Green light on the dash. Any ideas on possible issues?

So you can engage 4Lo? If so, the difference between 4Lo and 4Hi is mechanical, if one engages so should the other. Followed the instructions under the driver visor?

I am happy to report it was a false alarm. I opened up the manual and was able to engage all 4WD features! Thanks jgue.

Sometimes the 4wd light switch sticks. When this happens, the 4wd light on the dash will not kick on but yet the vehicle is in 4wd. My 1 4 runner does this from tome to time.
From what I gathered. It's fairly common and a replacement of the switch fixes it.


With yours being a limited, your actuator may stick as well. Which if fails will need replaced. Luckily they mostly just work.
