What about the PCV Valve...mine used to drop idle really low, then die, or just die.

Well i guess ill ask the first silly question, Why did you do what you did to it, previous issues, or just routine maintenance?
The backfire is from unburned fuel in the exhaust, why is it there? Stuck injector, faulty sensor causing it to think its too lean and dumping lots of fuel, ( will trigger a lean code eventually) or is this just after the restart only?
Couldnt a Vacuum leak cause it to not want to idle? i'd double check anything that you disconnected, make sure you didnt get any cracks in the old hoses.
Did you reset the EFI? however unlikely, considering you just changed or cleaned up all everything it might need a reset to run properly,
but seriously, back to the first question, was it doing this before the tuneup?

Vacuum leak will make it stall if it's big enough, or if you accidentally swapped vacuum hoses somewhere. How's your air filter?
