'99 4Runner Build up - Post Tacoma

Nice work on the 4runner. I really like the 01-02 grilles a lot better than the 99-00. Even if it is chrome, it looks a lot better.

I'll spare you all the details on this one, but lets just say I've had my eye out for a deal for the past year, and I snagged this one for a GREAT DEAL! 2009 model, never installed, all brackets/screws/antenna/most wiring included. I is a Kenwood DNX600EX (Commercial version of the DNX6140 that were sold to Dealerships to replace factory headunits that Kenwood offered 3 year warranties) with Bluetooth, Garmin NAV, DVD installed. I also picked up an HD Radio tuner KTC-HR200 for a deal as well. For the iPod, I'll wire it out of the back and in case I want to plug in my iPhone or someone else's iPod I have a Monster Aux out for the front.

This will finish up my already sound proofed interior, 6.5 Infinity Components front, 5.25 Infinity rears and Sub! I am excited!

very nice! How hard was it installing those front component speakers? How much better does it sound with the after market speakers and the door insulation? I bet the door closes with more of a thump now too huh? I hate how flimsy the doors seem.

Installation of the components are really easy. I am a firm believer in sound deadening a vehicle, and yes the doors close with more of a thud. I bought aftermarket brackets for the rear 5.25".

Prepping for the install. The Kenwood side of the wiring harness came with pre-labeled wiring. To make this install simple/orderly I picked up a Toyota wiring harness and created labels for Toyota wiring harness side wiring.

Of course- today after everything was buttoned up with the NAV install, 3 out of the 4 Electronic climate control bulbs finally went out for good. I've ordered all new bulbs 2 each of 2 so the 4th bulb doesn't taunt me next week!

Well like I said, I was fortunate enough for 3 out of the 4 Electronic climate control bulbs to burn out AFTER I put the dash back together from the NAV install.

Between the Tacoma and the 4Runner, I must say- I am getting damn good at taking apart the center section. Tonight I stopped by Toyota and picked up all of my replacement bulbs. 2 for the center display and 2 for the outer illumination, a bulb for the light that is intended for the ash tray. (When I installed the CB+NOAA, I drilled out the back of the framing where the ash tray once was. I then drilled a small hole in the cubby to the left of the space and inserted the bulb.) I replaced that burnt out bulb with a new one with a green cap and all is well in my dash now. Took me less than 15 minutes. Pictures for proof!

Your center stack looks like an arcade. A functional arcade, that is.

Very clean install. Do you travel to different cities/areas alot? I'm always curious why people install navigation systems. I guess I'm just old fashioned. I bust out the Atlas/Map and roll with it. Getting lost sometimes is half the fun.

Thank you-I can't speak for why others install NAV units. I've never been a fan of single din stereo replacements (with the exception of a few Alpine/Eclipse) stereos. Great price, trust me- all would have bought this thing if they knew what I had it in. As you can tell by my build, I dig a budget find. This radio had everything I wanted, and the NAV antenna included was a bonus!

2. Kenwood + since their NAV was a flop, they partnered with GARMIN for their NAV units. I really like the GUI of the GARMIN.
3. Selectable LED color to match factory colors
4. Is not a flip, so I can insert a CD/DVD with ease.
5. External Potentiometer type volume/mute knob.
6. Bluetooth Mic included
7. Multiple AV jacks on rear + iPod rear+ AUX on front

Picked these TRD Decals up a couple of days ago. These aren't the correct color scheme for white, but I felt these would look better than the Black/Red.

Last night I pulled the 4Runner into the shop to apply the TRD decals.

PASSENGER SIDE:
Cleaned off the panels.

Ruled up the decals.

Made my alignment tic marks.

Apply graphics.

Squeegee and then slowly peel back the transfer tape.

Admire work!

I wanted to run the JL Audio XD700/5 Five-Channel Class D System Amplifier to power my infinity components and rear sub but utilized electronics I had already purchased. My setup is a 4ch, 75x4 amp running the components and a 500w mono amp running the sub. I have a bass knob/potentiometer connected inline with the mono amp so I can easily control bass output. Hopefully this helps.

Not to clutter your build thread, which I am totally enjoying but, how do I get the ECT/rear window roll up/defrost buttons to light up? Meaning how do I replace or get to those bulbs?
I've seen threads/DIYs for the ones you replaced which are the Auto Air bulbs, but not the others. /hijack
