99 4wd re-gear quote Q.

So, I got a few quotes this week on re-gearing my 99 runner and I was kind of shocked of the prices I was quoted. I was wondering if this sounds right. Let me know what you guys think. I was quoted for 1800-1900 for front and rear with either G2 gears or Superiors at 4.56. with same day install if brought in early in the am. I asked the guys why so much and they told me that it was a yota. IFS is a pain to remove the front end and the bearings are hard to deal with. I went to reputable shops in the area and they said the same thing. Any recommendations on where I can get a better price or is it that the going rate for a re-gear job? Im in the socal area and will be shopping around until I find a reasonable price.

Gah! I just paid a fellow 150 in labor to regear my front IFS and install a TrueTrac. I paid 450 or so for the lsd, 75 for the gears (used), and 150 for a master install kit from Marlin Crawler. I pulled the diff myself, it's not hard at all.

Hit your local off-road forums and you'll probably find several guys willing to set up your gears for far less than a shop will charge you, and they'll likely do a better job. If all else fails, find Zuk on Yotatech and ask him for a quote.

Wow 1500 seems a bit steep, I don't live in SoCal, but I know here you could get it done for a couple hundred.

I paid 1500 for front and rear Yukon 5.29s with grizzly locker in the rear and install kits

Then 1200 for labor axle shaft replacement and cv reboot.
$2700 in total.

ok so mine wins all.... got used lockers shipped in from Florida, front and back 4.56. a new CV front driver boot. overall was $2,600... dont ask why but it was a lot and i had no say in what put in it. there seemed to be many problems with other gears

An even cheaper way, if you're willing to drop your diff yourself, is to find a used diff with the gears you want from a parts yard. The rear third is really quite easy, and the front diff isn't too difficult. Around here, open thirds go for $150 or so, and the front chunk could be free if you find a guy cutting his out for an SAS.

WOW Thor! Thats a grip! Rc4r, I think thats a little better than the quote I got but I was thinking gears are like what, $400 for front and rear. I would think 350-400 for install for each side would be decent but on the high side, so give or take 1200 for full install on the high side would be good, but I'm sure can be done for a lot less. I will hit some other forums to find a decent price.
